Restaurants to Add to the List!

Hey!

-So my friend from New York gave me a list of restaurants that he thinks we should check out if we have time... (they may or may not be already on Haven's list).

- Tokyo Pop (105 St. and Broadway)
- Chat N' Chew (between 5th and W. Union Square)
- Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery (between Essex St. and Norfolk St.)
- Grey Dog's Coffee (between Avenue of the Americas and Bedford St.)
- Tisserie @ DKNY --the 857 Broadway one is closed :(

Yum--I'm so excited for New York!

Pre Trip Questions

Please post your answers to the following questions by 9 March 2009.

• What are your expectations for the trip and design appointments?

• What company or companies are you most excited to visit?

• How do your interests or skills fit with the firms that we are visiting?

• How would you define “West Coast” design? How does it defer from “East Coast” design?

Design Curator at MOMA talks about Design=Art

Interesting video of Paola Antonelli, the design curator at Museum of Modern Art. She gives a talk on treating design as art on the Ted.com.

I enjoyed it and just thought I would share...

Anthouny Bourdain and NYC

I love food. I love Anthony Bourdain. Anthony Bourdain loves and is from NYC. The following is a link to Anthony Bourdain's itinerary for when he did an episode of his show "No Reservations" in NYC. Here is the link. I also just listed the restaurants he visited.

The Spotted Pig
Gray's Papaya (highly recommended by New Yorkers for a hot dog and a papaya juice)
Ali's Kebab Cafe (a bit far - in Queens, but you can get brains cooked in caper sauce lol)
Café Glechik (again, far, Brooklyn)
Hagi (I'm dying to eat here. It's hidden and literally underground)
Sakegura (a couple blocks from Hagi)
Prune
Siberia Bar (a great dive bar, but apparently it's now closed)

ART CALENDAR

great website I just found that has all the gallery listings by area. Looks like it will be helpful for anyone looking to squeeze in some gallery hopping during our trip. I know I am :)

I LEGO N.Y.

To get the mood set for NYC...and the "new art museum" (Hell Yes y'all!). These are by Christoph Niemann, an illustrator and contributer to the NY Times; he's quite hilarious.

Ryan McGuinness Show at the Deitch Gallery!

Ryan McGuinness is a really cool artist who is having a show at the Deitch Gallery when we are there. His work is very graphic and colorful. The Deitch Gallery is a really cool gallery in Soho. I am really excited to see it!
